Preparing
my TAMAROA model for a tugboat regatta at the International Game Fishing
Association Hall of Fame in Hollywood, FL.
TAMAROA is 1/48 scale, 51 ¼ inches long and displaces about 30
pounds. I started work on
the model in Dec 98. These
photos were taken in May 2000, with the model about 90% complete.
The model features working lights, horn and fire pump.
The 3 inch gun mount and fire monitor move side to side together. |

Here
a barge is being connected on a scale 100-foot towline.
All tugs had to tow or push a barge through the course. Other
events included static judging and derelict barge salvage.
The derelict barge was placed in the same position of the pond
for each tug. The tug
started at the dock and ran out to the barge.
Tug captains had the option of pushing the barge in, or trailing
a towline. The barge had a
bridle hanging in the water, and the towline had a hook at the bitter
end, to snag the bridle. |
